I Know This Is Supposed To Be A Sports Blog...

But there's just been too much happening in music lately that I unfortunately can't ignore.

And the latest slice of thick bologna has me pretty upset.

You know, it took me a long time to come around on the phenom known as Lil Wayne. I hated on his lyrical abilities for the longest because I found them corny and just weird. For example (and this is just an imitation, not an actual lyric), "I'm hotter than a UV ray, the hip-hop human microwave".  Really? You're supposed to be a lyrical GIANT and that's what has people buzzing over your abilities.

Anyway, that kind of attitude continued deep inside of me...until the Carter III. For whatever reason, I gave it an honest, unbiased listen and enjoyed a number of songs. I heard a "realer" side of Wayne than I had on previous records. He ditched his typical Cash Money beats and collaborated with some great producers and artists (BABYFACE was even featured...ya, Babyface).

Well maybe that whole "real" thing went to his head. I understand the man doesn't give a rat's behind. I understand the man wants us all to know where he came from- the slums of New Orleans. But there are things called limits.

First there's this whole talk, mostly from his own mouth, that he's already done more for music than a number of icons and by the time his "reign" is over, he'll be the biggest ever (bye bye Beatles, Elvis, MJ, etc.). Then his ego goes out the window with this whole rock album that's scheduled for upcoming release, wanting to dive into another genre to takeover.

But none of that, NONE OF IT, touches his latest outburst. And people wonder why I wasn't so big on Wayne. Back to the cellar for you sir.
