Twittin' It

The Twitter Is Up.  Help Us All.

I Held Out As Long As I Could Kanye...

but it looks like the demon has taken my soul anyway. And no, it is not my choice.

Attended my final "first day of class" today and was told some horrifying news from my professor for Media Convergence.

"One of things I will have you do is set up a Twitter account. It has now become part of today's journalistic landscape and because of it's overwhelming popularity, we all need to understand its purpose."  BOO NO!

I have zero clue what I'm going to say on this thing. I'm actually dreading signing up for it at all. Blogger is my world. Blogger is for the big boys. Twitter? Ya... isn't that called "Facebook Status" or am I wrong?
Seriously, who cares that I ate brown sugar oatmeal this morning? Or that I don't understand the new MTV morning talk show with the British chick?
It's pointless rambling. And if it does multiply into something worthwhile, write about it. Blog about it. Write more than 140 characters on the text pad of your Blackberry.

Take it from Kanye West. He's with me. Or...was with me. Guess my Caps Lock key just isn't as loud.
More to come... unfortunately.

2010 NFL Draft Unit Breakdown

Hey, Mel Kiper can do it this early. Why not me?

After what I considered one of the worst Draft pools in recent memory this past spring, the 2010 version appears to be every bit the opposite. Top not potential, extremely deep, versatile are all words I'd use to describe what NFL exec's will be looking at come combine time next March and April.

If you missed it, here's Kiper's Top 20 heading into the upcoming college football season...

1. Sam Bradford, QB, Oklahoma*
2.
Eric Berry, S, Tennessee*
3. Carlos Dunlap, DE, Florida*
4. Gerald McCoy, DT, Oklahoma*
5. Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska
6. Taylor Mays, S, USC
7. Jevan Snead, QB, Mississippi*
8. Dez Bryant, WR, Oklahoma St.*
9. Trent Williams, OT, Oklahoma
10. Arrelious Benn, WR, Illinois*
11. Colt McCoy, QB, Texas
12. Arthur Jones, DT, Syracuse
13. Jonathan Dwyer, RB, Georgia Tech*
14. Russell Okung, OT, Oklahoma St.
15. Jermaine Gresham, TE, Oklahoma
16. Greg Hardy, DE, Mississippi
17. Brandon Spikes, LB, Florida
18. Jerry Hughes, DE, TCU
19. Terrence Cody, DT, Alabama
20. Sean Weatherspoon, LB, Missouri

* denotes underclassmen

While many of the players seen above are also featured in my list, I've added a few names and tossed
around some numbers as well. Drafts are always hit or miss in the sense that even if you are the most decorated player on your team and the country (i.e.- Tim Tebow or Tyler Hansbrough) you still may not be highly coveted at the professional level. That said, hopefully I make more hits with this list than misses. But who knows. I'm not a fan of ranking all players like Kiper until I know what teams are in what slots because every team has different needs and therefore Draft Boards this early are pointless. Instead, I like to break down the Top Players at every position based on their NFL potential along with adding a sleeper.

Fake SI Covers Get Me Every Time!

Kudos to GoPowercat's "broX" for the link to these. I'm a Florida fan, and even though these poke fun at our star QB, they're still hilarious. Here are my 3 favorites.

The A-Hole Tastes Funny

Once again, when sports talk becomes relevant again (a.k.a.- when football season starts kicking up) this blog will hit it's true form in stride. Until then, I've got yet another great YouTube hit to showcase.
This time it comes from CNNSi's Hot Clicks and as stated on their blog, I highly doubt you'll find this on TV anytime soon! Great advertising though...

Hey Lebron, It Could Be Worse...

You could be Jerry Stackhouse. Oh, how I miss the days of calling John Wall a Memphis Tiger.

I Know This Is Supposed To Be A Sports Blog...

But there's just been too much happening in music lately that I unfortunately can't ignore.

And the latest slice of thick bologna has me pretty upset.

You know, it took me a long time to come around on the phenom known as Lil Wayne. I hated on his lyrical abilities for the longest because I found them corny and just weird. For example (and this is just an imitation, not an actual lyric), "I'm hotter than a UV ray, the hip-hop human microwave".  Really? You're supposed to be a lyrical GIANT and that's what has people buzzing over your abilities.

Anyway, that kind of attitude continued deep inside of me...until the Carter III. For whatever reason, I gave it an honest, unbiased listen and enjoyed a number of songs. I heard a "realer" side of Wayne than I had on previous records. He ditched his typical Cash Money beats and collaborated with some great producers and artists (BABYFACE was even featured...ya, Babyface).

Well maybe that whole "real" thing went to his head. I understand the man doesn't give a rat's behind. I understand the man wants us all to know where he came from- the slums of New Orleans. But there are things called limits.

First there's this whole talk, mostly from his own mouth, that he's already done more for music than a number of icons and by the time his "reign" is over, he'll be the biggest ever (bye bye Beatles, Elvis, MJ, etc.). Then his ego goes out the window with this whole rock album that's scheduled for upcoming release, wanting to dive into another genre to takeover.

But none of that, NONE OF IT, touches his latest outburst. And people wonder why I wasn't so big on Wayne. Back to the cellar for you sir.
