Admit it or not- The Kentucky Derby is awesome. So much build up for just a few minutes of sprinting back and forth.
I for one am a huge sucker of the race each year. And if it weren't for Kansas State Football's spring game on the same time Saturday, I might even throw a Kentucky Derby party!
So in the spirit of the Derby, I'll let you in on my yearly secret....the winner.
Hey, I'm no junky, but I usually pick fairly well. I try and steer clear of any horse in the single digits odds because we're trying to make the big bucks here. Take it to the bank or not, I guarantee success.
Ryan's #1 Pick- Regal Ransom
- I've heard nothing but good things out of this horse. He's got great speed and if he can get up to the front early, he has a tendency to get comfortable and not let people pass him. He drew a good slot with the #10 gate. There are questions though. He's been racing overseas and his primary stable has been in Dubai. This will be his U.S. return and I'm not sure how he'll take to the "big dogs" that are littered in this field. Also it's a 10 furlong race and I'm not sure he's raced more than 6 or 7 in a while. But the training this week has been done in the morning to keep him calm before they bust him out hard today and Friday. I like his chances despite the question marks.
Ryan's #2 Pick- Papa Clem
- First off, his jockey's colors are attractive and catchy. He's out of the 7th gate which is also a nice draw. He hasn't finished worse than 2nd in his last 4 races, including a top finish at the Arkansas Derby. And I also like the old school technique they're using to train him throughout this week.
